I do not know if anybody thought of that but I think rounded edges for applications view on the home screen would be nicer for the eye.
In my personal opinion, I’m fine with what it is. Well, I’m not a fan of rounded corners on phones either so… 
It’s not according to Philips design guide. However upcoming 1.1.0 adds some rounded corner, enough to escape branding committee I hope.
It will be aesthetically pleasing though not too critical. I prefer added functionality
