Can not play content with Dolby Vision

Whenever I’m trying to play content with Dolby Vision I get the audio, but not the visual. E.G. Fallout on Amazon Prime or any new Disney content. Other content works fine. If I play through HDMI it appears to work fine (I can only assume that the HDMI display aren’t dolby supported), but ideally I’d like to play natively through the app.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I’m guessing this “is not a problem”…

If I understand your post correctly, you can’t play Dolby Vision content via the U5’s onboard apps, but you can via a source connected to an HDMI input. I suspect this isn’t a problem for many users because they tend to use sources connected to HDMI (usually via an AVR) rather than the onboard apps. The last time I used a monitor’s (or in this case, a projector’s) onboard apps was when I had an AVR that couldn’t pass DV. It was a compromise and wasn’t optimal.

What is ideal about playing content via the U5’s onboard apps?

I have found there are some benefits to using the native apps; seems the native app such as Amazon or even Apple TV does address judder in a slight more optimal way than say my Apple TV 4K. I guess that’s to do with not having to negotiate different frame rate via the HDMI handshake. Also worth noting that the native Disney app supports the newly launched DTS IMAX enhanced sound while my Apple TV 4 K doesn’t.

That said I cannot say I’ve had the issues reported by the OP. OP, By the way what is the firmware you are running?

Those are some valid considerations. I have two systems that each use an Apple TV 4k to stream programming. On both, I’ve toggled between setting all video output to DV and setting the Match Content (frame rate and DR). I think I’ve noticed some judder with the first setting, but I haven’t check the frame rate being fed to either display in such situations. I don’t recall noticing any judder using the second setting, but I get the few seconds of blank screen while the frame rate and DR are being negotiated, which is annoying.

I would like to try the DTS IMAX enhanced in the Disney app, so I might consider using at least that native app, but then I’d have to set up eArc, which I’m loathe to do.

Edit: After doing some research on the possible benefits and problems of IMAX enhanced audio, I doubt I’ll be trying to implement it soon, even though both my systems are capable.
