I agree with @Yogdutt… the volume is not enough… I could hardly hear the movie dialogues in normal mode with room fan off… If only I could measure the levels accurately… as of now, without sir m external speakers, the projector cannot be used standalone. :frowning:

Do you have a phone that can measure the noise levels?
If so, put the phone on the same surface as your PPX at approximately 20 cm behind it, mic facing the PPX. Start the sound level measuring app, and record the phone’s screen. Then on the PPX, with the volume at the highest setting and running on Eco mode on batteries, play the following YouTube video:

Hi all,
From Indonesia here. Finally got my unit yesterday after paying some import duty around usd 50. Just opened it and it really feels nice. Good craftmanship on the unit itself, but a bit rough on the add ons… But, it’s okay. Will try to update all the things today and see what this little buddy can do.

Cheers!

use the leveller to level it first

A post was merged into an existing topic: General info about shipment and manufacturing

I have hotstar from apitode and it works for me in landscape mode.
I can install ZEE5 , but cannot activte it, seems like they check the android platform before generatin code like TV!!

I cannot get sony LIV to work too be cause its requesting google play service .

I think, as i have seen others say, it best works with FireStick TV as thats been compliant if to be with any apps required and its flawless to interact with. PPM internal GUI is just not comforatble to use and the remote meh! could be used but i would rather not except to control volume.

If you dont have a firestick its an extra investment, it was an extra for me to be true.

hi
Netflix even without update is not hd.
Youtube S works ,sign in can be done online.and quality is good.
Hotstar orientation seems fine.
Btw inbuilt speaker is ok ok and bluetooth speaker is reqd but no big deal.we knew it.
//////p.s …pls help solve my battery issue thx.////

Please look for and play Test Patterns season 2 ep 8 video.l on Netflix, and look at the text in the top right corner. It should say 1920 x 1080.

will do

@imdevu @IvoGrijt Here are my first impressions of the PPM after using it for more than 24 hrs.

The form factor is as compact as expected. Surprisingly heavier than imagined but packs a punch. Any first impression should be after the software upgrade. Initial setup needs to be kept in mind regarding apps which needs updating which does not (netflix).

The tripod is a bit of a let down for such a sturdy product. Feels loose and cheap for such a good product. The bag that comes along could scratch the PPM if put in the same pouch. They could have given a foam based one like DJI. The lens is exposed which makes me feel anxious of either scratching or getting finger prints over. Need a good cover for it ASAP.

Amazon prime that comes with it needs to be uninstalled and get the one from the aptoide store. Same with youtube. Hulu opens up sideways (guess its the tablet version thats been packaged). Battery does not come up to 3hrs as claimed despite charging full and have been using it almost daily. One more thing about the battery notification is that it split into three bars which is misleading. Example when the battery drops to 35% I see only one bar which makes me think Its around 5-10% and run to get my charger in panic or stop the PPM. Could consider Full Green (100%), 75% Light green bar (75%), 50% Yellow bar (50%), 25% Orange bar (Battery low), 10% red bar (Critical) type of notification.

Picture quality is impeccable and the luminosity is great and colors good even on colored walls. I used it on almost every possible surface on the house including the ceiling. Works great. Sound feels a little low if you have your fan on or playing it in a room with a few people.

Four corner keystone needs some getting used to actually get your angles right. Autofocus works like a charm and thats something that works great for the PPM.

Oh, and the surface as cool as it looks is a fingerprint magnet. For a person with OCD like me its torture to see smudge marks over it and the touch pad sticks to your fingers since the surface is glossy (should have gone with matt finish like most trackpads).

I would add more as I use it further.

EDIT1: VPN is useless since both Prime and Netflix actively block their IPs. I didn’t face any problem with youtube and prime installed from aptoide store. Had to uninstall prime that came with the PPM.

Airplay from Macbook pro was taking forever to connect. Miracast conencted and worked like a charm.

I would prefer to change color mode with presets (Extremely bright, High saturation, Indoors, Night mode)

DESPERATELY need a mobile app that can help with 4-corner keystone correction, mouse, since remote is going to be a pain to keep clicking.

Here is my first impression. After a very long wait, ordered back in Oct 19, #17181, I just received it on 22 Jun 20. I have been chasing for this unit and numerous emails to and fro with the initial issue with my order than the issue with the DHL tracking. It took like ages (3 weeks!!!) from Hong Kong to reach Singapore!!!

I have done my research on the unit from this website as well as Youtube so starting using it was not as daunting. Wifi connection to 5GHz was unsuccessful but manage to hook up with my 2.4GHz and software update was a breeze. Pairing of the mouse also did not face any issue.

I watched Netflix as well as Youtube (pre-installed) without any issue. Someone said I need to delete the pre-installed Youtube and install it again from Aptoid? Is this correct, why do I have to do it?

Auto focus and keystone adjustment works like a charm however I do notice some slight distortion on the top left and right side of the frame, might do calibration later but I can live with it now.

I have sideloaded 4 apps and they all been working perfectly on PPX!!!

Anyone using Kodi on PPX, any issue???

I managed to pair the audio to my LG soundbar using BT and did not notice any lag in audio at all. Pretty happy with that.

Overall, it meets most of my expectation except:-

  1. Better quality tripod would be welcomed
  2. Luminated remote would be a godsend!
  3. While watching Netflix, the preinstalled app does not allow me to skip intro like when I was using my Mi Box S.
  4. While I am watching Netflix, I use to be able to pause quickly (using my Mi Box S) by pressing the OK on my remote but it does not work here. I need to press on the Arrow button then scroll over to the play icon on the screen in order to pause it. Is that the only way to do that???
  5. Like many, I try to charge PPX using my external powerbank and it does not work too due to voltage required.
  6. I hope future software update can allow for horizontal keystone correction as promised.

That is not correct. The pre-installed S YouTube app works fine. It is OK to update the app too.

thanks for the confirmation!

thank you for the info

the S youtube is in aptoide…It needs to be installed.Sign in through online and connect to the accountThe one preinstalled may need to be deleted because you cant sign in there

I did not delete the pre-installed S YouTube. I am able to sign in to S YouTube app through the “activate” link from my phone.

I received mine yesterday! Yaaaay  Very first impression - it is much heavier than I thought! Size is pretty good. Someone is good at tetris, because I’m not sure how you crammed all that stuff into the box. The carrying pouch is nice, gonna use it for storage. The tripod is actually quite decent, but I do wish you could lock the legs so it could stand on a smaller surface. The airmote works really well, that mouse feature surely is magic  I have a nice small BT keyboard that works wonder with the projector, and I had a microSD lying around that I repurposed for videostorage

As for the projector itself, I made sure to read up on various do’s and don’ts - so setup and updating was pretty straightforward. Autofocus, 4 corner correction, speed of the system, picture quality, menus and settings are all working good so far. The various apps I tested also worked well. I have to get used to changing around the mode and picture options a bit based on how much light is in the room + what surface is used (this is my first projector). In that regard, I wish you could change those settings while you have a video paused.

I was a little surprised about the noise from the fan - a bit louder than expected. But! That was from me testing early and being close to the device in a silent environment. When you got a speaker connected and place yourself a bit further from the projector, I didn’t really notice it much

I tried to get a big picture projected up on a wall when it got a bit darker, and some scenes I tried out from a couple of anime movies almost had my jaw drop. Looked really amazing. Later that night, I streamed this sing along thing that aired on TV for the family with a big BT speaker connected, and they had really positive reactions.

Before bed I tried to place it so it projected onto the ceiling so I could watch while in bed, again, just had to adjust the image a bit and it worked really well.

I see a lot of potential for this device, its crazy. Portability, quality and versatility in features. I hope the device can be improved even further (such as the upcoming color app), and also, I hope the device will stay/be reliable in regards to hardware components not failing “easily” over time

So far - VERY IMPRESSED AND HAPPY!

Hello there,

I received my Picopix max yesterday and so far did many testings, I am really happy about the image quality, the autofocus is amazing but I have a few feedbacks.

One important thing is missing for me. I used to have the first Picopix, that I used the past 5 years with no android in it, It was just a simple interface with HDMI connection.
There I could use the remote to adjust Brightness contrast and saturation very simply, with a small popup menu.
However on Picopix max it is only possible internally in a sub menu.

Here It would be great to have these features working directly from the remote when we use HDMI, or other external sources. It is not so practical to adjust the image in a separate menu, also the settings done internally might not be the best ones for your external source as console or a blue-ray player and so on…

Would it be possible to add simple image settings directly from the remote?

Regarding image, with the old picopix models we could setup wall colors, it could be calibrated on a yellow pink green or blue wall, it was a great feature that I have not found here yet.

Also I noticed that I cannot connect the remote controller and my Philips bluetooth speakers at the same time. If I want to use my good speakers, I cannot navigate easily on the interface anymore.

Could this also be fixed in a next update? ( allow to connect the remote + bluetooth speakers )

Then if I use an external device plugged in with HDMI bluetooth is not usable. Which was one of the feature that convinced me so the picopix would work as the perfect hub.

Also the keystone correction angle and all features that were really appealing to me seem to be usable mostly internally, It would have been nice to have a direct access to all these features for external sources too.

Last of all, so far I could not use screen casting from android phone, from win10 and from a macbook pro. In each case I appeared connected but I had only a black screen on the projector. There’s might be a bug there. I was using a chrome cast before without error on my old picopix, so I see clear improvements to do here.

As a global feedback, It is a great product with very good video quality, many connections, but most features are to be used in the box, and I would prefer personally to have more control on basic settings using HDMI devices. Internal apps navigation was not the smoothest and it is easier to have a computer plugged in on Netflix for instance, but then calibration or color settings must be done in the pico interface which is not so practical.

I hope some improvements can be done in the next updates, and some of these feedback can be useful.

I wish you a nice day

Tanguy
