Issue Description
Apps like Disney+ refuse to work when started, requiring an update to be installed. However, the update is not available or cannot be installed from within the app.
Applicability
It applies to LuminOS-based projectors only. The issue has surfaced since August 2024.
Solution
To resolve it, please install the APK Updater app from the App Store section of your projector’s Home Screen. Then, start the app and use it to install the latest update for Disney+ and any other apps that require updating.
This should resolve the issue.
If the issue is still not resolved, please try the Aurora Store app (also available from the App Store section), and then use it to install updates. The Aurora Store app gives you access to the entire Google Play Store and installs updates from the official sources. However, note that if you install any 3rd party apps not already available on LuminOS, we cannot guarantee that it will work properly.
Details
The issue pertains to a change in the way several apps are distributing updates. Recent updates are only delivered as split APKs, a system that LuminOS is not currently equipped to handle. However, this feature is being added to LuminOS on a priority basis. The above workaround will then not be required anymore. This post will be updated when this feature is available.
