HDMI-CEC Support

please don’t can cec, i turned down a very cheap but very functional xgimi halo (with Google tv etc) and didn’t request a refund on my super late picopix because Philips did decide to implement CEC. i don’t want to go through a refund, i JUST got it!

so it seems that one of my most wanted features, hdmi cec functionality, doesn’t work on my Picopix. I’ve tried three different cec devices with three different cables , verifying them on my caiwei ( hdmi cec compatible) pocket projector. I’ve turned the three different CEC modes on on both devices ( have tried most if not all combinations), add will add switching on and or off developer mode on my source devices, and my ppm.

am running 1.027 (didn’t try 1.026, upgraded add soon as i got my ppm device on the network).

I’ve tried resetting to factory defaults but can’t figure out how to roll back my firmware.

any suggestions, any help?

besides that am pretty impressed with my ppm!

(btw, source device(s) : Xiaomi mibox 3 (primarily)…and mibox 4

cheers

Leigh

Have you checked the CEC settings in the PPM Hidden Android menu?

Edit: after re-reading what you wrote, it seems you did.
What did you want to have happen, automatic power control or media control also?

media control mostly…

hi all, my hdmi CEC is not working, (hasn’t worked since i received it about 4 weeks ago). i had almost cancelled my order as the chromecast and other Android tv allowing ease of smart home integration were no longer included and there was no CEC sorry allowing for ease of smart home integration included.

i was ecstatic when i found out it would be available… but now totally disappointed as i suspect it may be a return. I’ve turned on all combinations of the CEC controls in both the ppm and my cec devices (Xiaomi miboxes), replaced all hdmi cables, turned off developer mode on both devices (have also tried a plethora of dev mode options on both devices) , and verified CEC works on my other CEC compatible projector. oh yeah have factory reset it, as well as trying it on both 1.027 and 1.029.

can anyone suggest anything else? any tests i can run perhaps? i can’t identify anything in the rockchip tests but my translator seems to be a bit…off. i do feel that the plugs are quite stuff, and the case potentially too loose so perhaps it’s a connection problem…i really really don’t want to return it as it’s been such a long time coming… and for the most part the test of the machine seems great.

thx!!

I thought they disabled this feature while they worked out some of the issues where the fans didn’t start when the device was powered on with CEC.

Hi @Leigh_Tulley Hdmi cec is not stable, it was enabled as an experimental feature, and works for many users, but not all. It has caused other problems and will be completely disabled soon. If you are still within the 30 day return window and this is a dealbreaker, I suggest returning. It’s unlikely that a software update will solve it.

no smart home integration is definitely a deal breaker… to think i passed up on the xgimi halo for this…mind u xgimi did the similar things swith their cc aurora. they promised b Android tv support but never delivered and then told people to just plug dongles in… with no cec support. there is something fantastic about asking Google to find videos of how to knots and ‘show it on my tv’. i can’t go back…

how do i start the return?

thx

@Philips_Support_P Are you kidding? Disabling the function, because it cause other problems is not a solution. So maybe just completely remove the HDMI port from PPM. … :disappointed_relieved:
Is PPM real product of Philips?

hi Prashant, so i kept the unit… mainly because i was way too close to time to return it. i foolishly assumed i was the problem with the machine and tried everything before coming here and begging for help. which… has been unsatisfactory. why is it that my machine won’t do hdmi CEC like everyone else past 1.026 and pre “fix”.

this indicates to me that my projector may have faulty hardware.

also, the hdmi switch on was never marked as a beta, so simply returning the unit is not a solution. ive stated i passed up a amazing bargain on a halo, because of the added hdmi fx (which was only requisite when Google Play and casting services initially advertised were withdrawn.

so how do i hey my hardware repaired?

Hi @Leigh_Tulley it’s unclear what is the defect with your PicoPix Max, can you please describe again? Do you mean that HDMI CEC is not working? PicoPix Max does not support this feature. We attempted to enable it based on customer demand, but have disabled it again because of safety concerns.

If you are experiencing another problem, please let us know.

The possibility of CEC was explored and then disabled to avoid an issue that was observed because of CEC. Serious bug on 1.1.0 [Overheating] <- Fixed in v1.1.01

More details can be found in the below thread:
Software Update v1.1.01 & v1.1.02 are available now

I for one like the CEC feature but not if there’s a safety issue. I don’t see a problem if philips disabled it temporarily until they fix it. Better safe than sorry!

Sometimes when you turn on / off PPM no display is projected on the screen while the fan and light stay on forever! @PhilipsEngineering @IvoG

This is an HDMI CEC incompatibility with the external device you’ve connected. Please turn HDMI CEC off on the external device. Although we’ve tried to fix this bug in software, it’s safer to simply turn CEC off.

@Philips_Support_P I am using apple tv and the CEC is already turned off

Is there any update to this ?
I really want HDMI-CEC enabled; but looks like the latest update has taken it away completely :frowning:

Is there a way to get it enabled again to test if it will work??

This feature was removed because external connected devices were turning on the device improperly causing the light engine to go on with out the fan causing hardware issues.

They turned it off for safety reasons and o don’t think there are any plans to turn it back on as they can’t control how other devices send signals over CEC.

Definitely needed!
